Make It Monday # 62: Step It Up: Layering

Hello there!  Long time no see ya!  I've been hiding out doing a little Spring cleaning and it took ALL of my creative energy to purge and reorganize my craft space.  I was able to fill a box with goodies that were taken to a local Senior Center.  It feels good to have passed along some well loved supplies for someone else to enjoy.

This was a fun challenge from Betsy Veldman for this weeks Make It Monday.  The idea was to create a one layer card and then re-create it by adding some layers.  Betsy demonstrated using three cards so I did three also.

While technically this card has three layers to start with, each element is adhered without any dimension so the overall effect is that of a one layer card.

The Aqua Mist mat and the stamped and scored panel are adhered flat.  The pinked circle with the attached sentiment and flower image is on dimensional foam adhesive.  the butterfly was attached with scor-tape at "the body" only so that the wings were free to lift.  The butterfly image is also stamped on the card base under the die cut.

On the third card,  I used a technique that I had never tried before.  For the stamped center panel, I scored approximately 1/4" on either side of the image and folded the card stock back and secured it with scor-tape giving it a smooth, rounded, edge and effectively a double thickness before I adhered it to the Kraft layer.  The bottom half of the sentiment circle is popped up on regular foam adhesive while the upper portion has extra thick dimensional foam.  Again the butterfly is attached at the body section with the wings free to lift.

CAS-ual Fridays #46 Name that Tune

What a fun challenge!  It has taken me the better part of the week to come up with a song but I did and here is the card I created with a little inspiration from Elton John's 1972 Hit, Rocket Man!

I love the cartoon-ish, punny character of this card.  It is very different from my usual style and I really enjoyed making it.  I have several little boys in mind as possible recipients, I hope their parents aren't too young to get the pun!

Supplies:  (All Papertrey Ink unless noted)

Cardstock:  White, Enchanted Evening, Spring Rain

Stamps:  Boy Basics: Rock On & Out of this World, Background Basics: Twinkle, Fresh Alphabet

Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, PTI Pure Poppy, Summer Sunrise, Enchanted Evening

Dies:  Star Border, Out of This World st/3, Limitless Layers Ovals

Copic Markers:  T1, T4, R29, Y13, YR15

Extra:  Sakura Glaze Pen, Dimensional foam adhesive

Process:

1.  Die cut white card stock with Out of This World st/3, stamp and color the rocket, flame, and moon with Copics

2.  Die cut oval.

3.  Create sentiment by masking exclamation point on "You Rock", compose -IT and MAN! using Fresh Alphabet 

4.  Stamp sentiment label, color in "rock", sponge edges with red and yellow inks, glaze all black areas with Sakura Glaze Pen.

5.  Cut Spring Rain to 3 3/4" X 5", stamp with Background Basics using Enchanted Evening ink

6.  Cut a mat from Enchanted Evening card stock to 4" X 5 1/4", adhere to white card base cut to A2 size.  Adhere Spring Rain layer.

7.  Adhere all design elements, use dimensional foam for moon and rocket

March 2012 Blog Hop

Hi Everyone!  I am so glad you could join me today for one of my favorite events each month.  I just received my new March Release goodies from Papertrey Ink yesterday so a little perfect timing really got me going!  Isn't this a GORGEOUS inspiration picture?  Scroll on down to see what it inspired me to make!

As soon as I saw the picture, I knew the primary theme would come from the aqua box with the bright yellow candies inside. I was slightly sorry that I could not work in the bold yellow and white stripes but I am delighted with the way the invitation turned out.  I have wanted to make invitations for a long time, and now it will be a cinch with the new mini set, By Invitation.  Now I will have to have a dinner party just so I can send out some Springy, happy invitations!

Make It Monday #58 Graduated Backgrounds

Hi There!  Is it really Friday already?  Spring is EXPLODING around here and we have a whole weekend of beautiful weather coming up in which to enjoy it.  I hope it's the same for you-where ever you are!

Nichole WOWED me again with her artistic style in this week's MIM Video and I have already peeked at the gallery and seen some other pretty amazing submissions to the challenge.  You still have time to play along in case you haven't given this beautiful technique a try.

I chose a variety of Copic markers to apply and blend the colors for this graduated background on a piece of White card stock cut to 5"X 3 3/4".  I used a Memory Box Butterfly Delights die on the diagonal and balanced it with a sentiment from Daydreamers stamp set, stamped with VersaMark ink, and heat embossed with White Embossing Powder.  This was mounted on a white mat which was then mounted onto a Hibiscus Burst card base.

The colors photographed a little warmer than they truly are, but I think you can get the idea of how beautifully Copic markers blend together to created this dream-like background.

Hi There, Everyone!  I'm looking forward to a wonderful weekend, how 'bout you?  

It's been a while since I got to play along with CAS-ual Fridays challenges so it feels good to be back.  I hope you like the card I made for you today.

Father's Day may seem an unlikely occasion for a pastel color but Papertrey Ink's Spring Moss is one of my favorites to combine with black and A Little Argyle stamp set seemed the perfect way to put them together.  The sentiment is from PTI's Happy Day stamp set, and LImitless Layers Ovals dies were used for the focal point.  Card stocks used are:  Spring Moss, True Black and White.  Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and Spring Moss ink.  The dashed line around the sentiment was done by hand with a black fine tip marker.

Make It Monday #57 Colored Kissing

Hi there, Happy Sunday!  I hope you are enjoying a day of warm, spring weather as we are here in Arkansas.  I've begun to see a few butterflies already and lots of the early spring colors are popping out.  Along with Heather's MIM video, all of this beauty has inspired a bright and bold card today. (You will have to scroll below the countdown info to find Heather's video on Nichole's blog.  It's well worth the trouble!) 

   

I confess to being intimidated by the Modern Basics stamp set for a long time.  I've had it since it's release, but only used it one other time.  This challenge seemed like the perfect opportunity to try it again.  I'm glad I did.  I hope it prompts a smile for you today!
