Make It Monday #74 Stamping on Texture

Heather Nichols has put together a fabulous tutorial for you today about stamping on texture.  By throwing this easy technique into your bag of tricks you can reinvent all of the images in your stamp collection!

My project this week was doubly inspired.  First by Heather's tutorial and secondly by this picture from Nichole's post today introducing more of the stamps and dies to be released on July 15th.

I was already thinking that my favorite background texture is woodgrain, and the floral design on the picture above made me think of the Stitches and Swirls stamp set.  After running a small piece of card stock through my Big Shot using the impression plate, I applied Classic Kraft ink to the texture with a brayer as Heather had done in her tutorial.  This was adhered to the left side.  I stamped the invitation on the right along with a small image from Stitches and Swirls to move the eye from the image on the left to the information on the right. Finally, I added the ribbon and bow, rounded the corners and it was finished.  Pretty simple!

I like the combination of Sweet Blush, Kraft, and Dark Chocolate for the "Meet Julia" party I had in mind as I made this invitation.  I have some friends who are hoping to adopt a little girl so I want to be ready to host a shower when she arrives!

You will find the usual supplies list at the end of the post.  Please leave a comment; it really makes my day to hear from you!

Thanks for stopping by,
Suzanne

  10. Suzanne, this is nothing short of stunning! I love the way you took inspiration from the wooden piece and made it into something even better. I tried to do this challenge and ended up wasting a bunch of card stock and tossing it all--I just couldn't come up with anything. Thanks for showing us all how it SHOULD be done!

  24. It has been too long since I've had my Suzanne goodness! Your creations and words are so wonderful in every way, that I'm totally amazed every time I visit.

Your invitation astounds me in two ways. First, wood-grain just always strikes me as 'male' (even though I've done a bit of carpentry myself). You certainly dismiss that notion of mine. The braying of kraft ink onto the pink provides the second surprise; the flowers look like they are part of a kraft background, and somehow pink ink was applied to kraft paper and the flowers are on that background (as though you masked the leaves and flowers). (Hope that makes sense.)

I have such respect for the ability to make something beautiful that also confounds as to how it was done. (One of my artist friends told me that her teacher at Rhode Island School of Design said, "If you want to sell your wares, throw in one detail that doesn't reveal easily how it was made.". Then buyers won't think "Oh, I'll just go home and make one of those myself!"

Well I'm off for a bit more bliss, and will catch up on your other posts. Thank you for leaving a comment on my post even though you didn't play along this time, dear blog friend.
